Badi Community of Narayan Municipality, Dailekh

The Badis of Narayan municipality, are came from various parts of Dailekh district and from other places in conflict period of Nepal. All of the Badis are landless. Badi community is located in ward no. 1, Nayabasti of Narayan municipality. There are 26 No. of House Hold of Badi community in Nayabasti. Load unload labour is major income resources of Badi. They are all engaged in labour in Dailekh headquarter. They have not any other income activities in their community.
In Badi Community of Narayan Municipality there are altogether 121 people. Out of the total Badi households’ children population (the age group 0-14 years is 51.24 percent, age group of 15-29 years is 28.10 percent, age group of 30-59 years is 17.35 percent and only 3.31 percent Badis are the age of 60 above. From that it can be said that majority of Badi peoples were child age group between 0-14 years.
Badi community has their own language, which is called Badi language. They speak their language in there family and interact their community Nepali language is a medium language of communication to interact with other communities, Not only Brahmin, Newars and Chhetries but also other allied caste groups speak Nepali language.
The total numbers of student in different level of educational institutions are 29. Among them 41.48 percent have been attending in primary schools and some of them have leave the education after finishing the primary education. 55.07 percent have been attending lower secondary, and only one student is attending campus level.
All houses are thatched roof and, no zinc sheet roof and RBC roof houses are found in the their community and all Badis live in the joint family
Total 35 percent households go to the health post 23 percent go to Dhami/Jhankri/Gurau, 42 percent goes to both health post and Dhami/Jhankri/Gurau. Some of them do not want to go hospital; this is due to the lack of medical education and distance.
Badi of Narayan celebrates almost all the Hindu's festivals like: Dashain, Tihar, Mahge Sankranti, Sawane Sankranti, Chaite Dashain, Purnima and Aaunsi. The day of Dhasami is revered of Kuldevta. Similarly in Tihar, the Aaunsi is for friends together and play the customary Bhailo.
The main occupation of Badi people is daily wages. Only one Badi engaged in driving as a skilled employee. All male and female work as uoloader in bus and other labour work in construction sector. Male and female Badi people work in cash not in crop. The rate of wages is also different in male and female. The wage rate of male is high than female in the Badi community. Male earn 200-250 and female 175-225 in a day.
